Description
The Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences (VIMS) Center for Coastal Resources Management (CCRM) will assess the current condition of the shoreline of the South Shore Estuary Reserve (SSER) and then utilize that information along to run a customized Shoreline Management Model (SMM), and a custom decision tree to identify areas where natural shorelines should be protected, living shorelines can be employed, hardened shorelines could be softened and where hardened shorelines might be the last resort. The data and tools will be provided and housed on the NYSDOS GIS Gateway. Additional tools are available within the model such as identifying suitability for oyster restoration and salt marsh migration.
